Medicine, management, consultancy, hospitality—Mandar Vaidya has walked diverse paths in his career, broadening his horizons and picking up key skills along the way.

A qualified doctor, having completed his MBBS and internship from Grant Medical College and JJ Hospital in Mumbai, Mandar worked briefly as a medical officer. He opted out of an MD in obstetrics and gynecology to pursue an MBA from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai. He, in fact, undertook two separate programs in management and marketing, and then combined his knowledge of medicine and management as a consultant.

At McKinsey & Company, where he worked for 15 years across India, Singapore and the United Kingdom, and made partner, he led the health services practice in India and the hospitals practice for Asia. He also headed the Delhi office of McKinsey for four years. Mandar’s time at McKinsey helped shape him into one of the top business leaders in the country, serving as the perfect foundation for his vital role at OYO, the hugely successful hospitality startup.

Mandar currently handles two high-potential markets for OYO in South East Asia and the Middle East. He is responsible for OYO’s rapid expansion strategy, helping the organization mark its presence in countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
