So, how can you support women at the workplace?

Be more aware of their biases.

Men can be more mindful of their biases against women to ensure they don’t act in discriminatory ways.

Mind their language and tone of voice.

Men can be more sensitive of how they address women and ensure they don’t speak to them in an improper way.

Avoid manterrupting.

Women are likely to be interrupted by a male colleague — usually to dominate the conversation or devalue what she is saying — at least twice in a three-minute conversation. This according to a study from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Avoid mansplaining.

Mansplaining is when a man explains something to a woman in a condescending way that assumes she has no knowledge about the topic.

Distribute office chores evenly.

Make a visible commitment to fairness and gender equality.

Stand up against those showing gender bias.
