How To Stay Consistent

Bollywood actor Aamir Khan is often referred to as ‘the perfectionist’. You may have noticed how he focuses on one film at a time—one is released every few years—and that most of his films are huge successes. This is because Khan is dedicated, disciplined and creative. But, most of all, he is consistent.

Dreams and goals are an integral part of our lives. We generate ideas and initiatives because we want to achieve our objectives. However, at times great ideas or initiatives don’t take off and we lose the initial momentum. We’re unable to pursue it further because we lack consistency.

Consistency usually implies a positive sense of regularity and dependability; it’s the key to productivity and long-term success. There are times when work piles up and we tend to procrastinate, thus increasing stress levels. Consistency helps you utilize your time and resources efficiently by bringing regularity to your work and performance.

Consistency Is An Important Habit

Consistency is about building small yet empowering habits that are instrumental in prioritizing and focusing on your goals. Here are its other benefits:

  1. Develop Self-Control

Adopting a new habit is challenging because you need to step out of your comfort zone. To be consistent is like developing a new habit that requires self-control and discipline. Developing this habit helps us stay on track and pursue our objectives.

When we show consistency in our work, it reflects positively in our attitude and shows that we believe in our ability to keep going. This sense of regularity and steadiness establishes trust among those who’ve seen us build and maintain momentum.

Consistency is tricky because it’s time-consuming and requires plenty of patience and hard work. Here are some effective ways that’ll teach you how to be consistent:

  1. Focus On One Goal

Never bite off more than you can chew. You may be tempted to focus on multiple things at the same time but that’s actually counterproductive. For example, if you decide to upskill yourself, focus on developing one skill before you move on to the next.

  1. Create A Schedule

Procrastination is imminent when a task is boring. Before your work piles up, create a calendar or a planner that’ll help you track every to-do item. Set realistic timelines and commit to your deadlines.

  1. Set Healthy Boundaries

It’s often impossible to say no to others. But, in doing so, you’re prioritizing other’s needs and requests over yours. To avoid getting overwhelmed and to stay focused on your priorities, learn to say no and establish personal boundaries. Don’t make promises you can’t keep.

  1. Forgive Your Failures

To err is human. If you fail at meeting your objectives, don’t beat yourself up. Even the most organized and consistent people slip up. Plan for your setbacks and failures in advance. For example, if you miss a deadline, find ways to make up for the lost time.
