India’s education industry is one of the fastest-growing in the world and the pace of growth will only increase with the continuous adoption of online learning.
According to a study by KPMG and Google, India’s online education industry will increase to $1.96 billion in 2021 from $247 million in 2016 and the number of paid online users will jump from 1.57 million to 9.5 million during this period.
In order to keep up with this increasing demand for online learning, companies need to find new and intuitive ways to keep customers engaged with the platform.
One area eLearning companies need to focus on is the User Experience (UX) on their platforms.
What is UX? In layman terms, UX is a person’s attitude or response to a product or service, which could be a website or an application.
UX for eLearning platforms is important as they need to focus on making the experience meaningful and intuitive for a seamless process for the learners.
A good and well-structured user experience is one in which the user is able to navigate the platform effortlessly without getting lost or confused.
For an eLearning platform, the pattern flow of information or content needs to structured so it can engage learners and ensure that the various tasks to be performed are in sync with each other.
The important questions to keep in mind while designing a user experience for learners are:
1. Is the course usable? Will the learners be able to achieve the goal for which they came to the platforms easily and effectively?
2. Will the learners be engaged with the platform and complete the course?
3. Will the platform run seamlessly on all devices?
4. How will the feedback of the users be captured?
The above questions can really help design a user experience that is clutter-free, properly structured, and responsive, and at the same time is designed for the learner. You should also take into account a learner’s tendency to scan the content before going through it.
One of the most important things while designing a user experience for eLearning, which most companies do not tend to focus on, is how to gather feedback from learners.
Gathering feedback is highly important to optimize the UX for eLearning courses. It includes asking questions from the learners about their experience with the courses, what they liked, what they did not like, what worked for them and what put them off.
Such feedback will work towards establishing and understanding areas of improvement and making better decisions while designing the courses in a better way.
